What is the Granite Mountain Fund?

Over the last week WFGI has had several news organizations contract us concerning the movie, Only the Brave. Other than the wanting a Granite Mountain Hotshot’s family member to comment on the movie they wanted to know if the Granite Mountain Fund was going to be benefitting the families of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. The answer is no.

There has been a misconception that the profits from the movie will be allocated to the Granite Mountain Fund, and the Granite Mountain Fund would then be split among the 19 families.

The Granite Mountain Fund is a philanthropic initiative from the movie, Only the Brave. Their Mission Statement is:

The Granite Mountain Fund drives donations to support firefighting as well as the towns and families connected to and impacted by hotshots and their work.

Donations for The Granite Mountain Fund will benefit the following organizations:

Wildland Firefighter Foundation’s main focus is to help families of firefighters killed in the line of duty and to assist injured firefighters and their families. We honor and acknowledge past, present, and future members of the wildland firefighting community, and partner with private and interagency organizations to bring recognition to wildland firefighters.

It is our Mission To assist next-of-kin of wildland firefighters killed in the line of duty and wildland firefighters with PTSD.

Our purpose is to assist young men and women in the Fire Explorer Programs with financial support and material donations.

Prescott Firefighter’s Charities (PFFC) is a 501 (c) 3 Organization dedicated to providing support and assistance to the families of public safety and the community in times of tragedy and emergency.

The California Fire Foundation, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, provides emotional and financial assistance to families of fallen firefighters, firefighters and the communities they protect.

To provide an active way to honor and celebrate our nation’s heroes by connecting Americans to the sacrifices made by Military, Law Enforcement, Firefighters and First Responders.

The Granite Mountain Fund is partnered with the Tides Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 organization. 98.5% of the donations raised through the Tides Foundation will go directly to the charities the fund supports. Tides will receive a 1.5% administrative fee.

The Board of Directors of the Granite Mountain Fund allocate funds to chosen organizations at their discretion. There may, or may not be additional organizations that will receive funding from Granite Mountain Fund. WFGI has appealed to Granite Mountain Fund to included WFGI as one of the organizations deserving of their support. WFGI is currently awaiting confirmation from Granite Mountain Fund as to whether they will support WFGI’s mission, and help us to continue to advocate for wildland firefighters.
